CareDent PerioTape 50m – 2nd generation PFAS free dental tape

CareDent PerioTape 50m is the second generation of the PerioTape range, rebuilt around an advanced UHMPE (Ultra High Molecular Polyethylene) fibre with a smooth impregnated microcrystalline wax coating. It glides through tight contacts and lifts plaque biofilm and trapped food from the areas a toothbrush can’t reach, with the strength to resist shredding, fraying and breakage.

The 50m spool is the everyday refill size — enough for several months of once-daily flossing — supplied in an easy-grip container with a flip-top lid, made from 100% recycled plastic.

What changed in generation 2?

CareDent moved PerioTape from PTFE to UHMPE in response to evolving Australian regulatory requirements and growing demand for PFAS-free alternatives. The result is a tape that’s stronger and smoother than the original, with no PTFE or PFAS materials — and packaging that cuts environmental impact without giving up performance.

Who is CareDent PerioTape 50m for?

Suits all ages and everyday flossing. It’s the right pick if you floss daily and want the lowest cost per metre, if standard floss shreds or snaps between your back teeth, or if you’re actively moving your bathroom away from PFAS-containing products. It can be used with floss threaders to clean around bridges, implants and orthodontic wires.

How to use CareDent PerioTape 50m

Wind — Break off about 45cm of tape and wind the ends around the middle finger of each hand. Pinch the tape between your thumbs and index fingers, leaving 2.5–5cm taut between them.
Glide — Guide the tape between two teeth with a gentle side-to-side motion. Don’t snap it down onto the gum. Once through the contact, curve the tape into a C-shape against the side of one tooth.
Slide — Move the tape up and down against the tooth surface and just under the gum line. Curve it against the neighbouring tooth and repeat, using a clean section of tape for each gap.
Repeat — Work through the lower teeth the same way, using your index fingers to guide the tape into the contacts.

For best results

Floss at least once a day, ideally before brushing
Pair with a dentist-recommended toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthrinse
Add a tongue cleaner to your routine for fresher breath

Is CareDent PerioTape PFAS free? Yes. The 2nd generation PerioTape is manufactured without PTFE or PFAS materials, using a UHMPE fibre instead.

Why did CareDent change the material? CareDent transitioned from PTFE to UHMPE in response to evolving Australian regulatory requirements and growing demand for PFAS-free alternatives. The Gen 2 tape is stronger and smoother than the original.

Is this tape waxed? Yes. Gen 2 PerioTape has an impregnated microcrystalline wax coating, which is what gives it its glide and comfort through tight contacts.

How long will 50m last? Around six months at roughly 45cm per session, once daily. It’s the everyday refill size — for travel or trial, the 4m mini is the better fit.

Is the packaging recyclable? The container is made from 100% recycled plastic. Check your local council’s kerbside guidelines for small rigid plastics before recycling it.

How often should I use it? At least once daily, or as directed by your dental professional.

Amazing customer service (particularly from Lynsey Fairhurst)I ordered from HoM recently and the Aramex delivery guy stupidly threw my parcel behind the wheel of my house mate’s car. Have an auto-immune problem with my mouth which results in constant horrendous dry mouth, waking me at least 4-6 times during the night with no saliva, mouth like the desert. My dentist did not provide a full amount of whitening gel to get through 30 days treatment. The cost of an extra gel from my dentist was high. I looked online and found THE HOUSE OF MOUTH. I don't normally write reviews, but am making an exception for House of Mouth. The reason is that they provide a top notch service at a cost far less than you'd pay at the dentist. It costs a bundle to get a dentist to make those bleaching trays to whiten your pearlies. House of Mouth will do a perfect job for way less. And you don't have to go into an appointment - you can do it all by mail. Dan is lovely to deal with. And the whole process is easy.
